Why
A door held open.
Darya left one country for another with a single suitcase and a place at a university. Everything that followed — the doctorate, the patents, the work that reaches patients — began because someone, somewhere, held a door open.
She has spent years quietly holding doors open for others: supporting children without families, contributing to communities and institutions in Africa and elsewhere, and standing up for human rights. She does not talk about it, and this page will not either — beyond saying that it happens, and why.
The measure of a life is what it makes possible for someone else.
